If you were to take up all the tiles, you not only have to remove the tiles themselves but any hardware or fixtures that are fastened on the same wall as the tiles. This is especially useful in bathrooms. To do tile repairs, you don’t have to shut the water off or get a plumber to remove and then replace bathroom fixtures.
